The story of: “ Dr. D, Dental Detective” So I call the office in a lot of pain and fearing a root canal. They asked me to come in that day. Dr. Dutton put on her sleuth hat and puffed on her longstem pipe. (OK, maybe I’m being a bit dramatic). Dr D spent the next half hour assessing, prodding and asking a series of probing questions. Suddenly, she tips back her sleuth hat and exclaims “Ah-Ha!” Then she leans in close with the bright lamp hovering above my face. Then The truth came out. “Mr. Manner, you say your tooth has been increasingly painful for about 30 days correct?” Yes ma’am. “Plus I see a healing scar just below your right eye.” Yes ma’am. “Mr. Manner, was that a high impact injury?” Yes ma’am. “Mr. Manner, when did that injury occur?” About a month ago ma’am. The room was absolutely silent in anticipation. Dr. D continues, “You are a very lucky man Mr. Manner. Since you were wearing your dental night guard as previously instructed, you do not have a series of shattered teeth. Instead, you are experiencing an inflammation of the tissue supporting the tooth.” Dr. D quickly leveled any high points on that tooth to reduce any future chewing impact causing the tissue inflammation. Dr. D leaned back adjusting her sleuthing hat and puffing on her sleuthing pipe. Dr. D then proclaimed, “Mr. Manner, my work here is done and the mystery of your dental troubles has been solved. You are now free to go about your life.” And like a puff of smoke, she was gone. On to the next case. Wow, Dr. D, what a super sleuth you are. Thank you so much, Keith Manner
