It's been about a week since Peter Wilson finished restoring our home. He didn't "paint" it, he brought it back to life. I've never been so compelled to write a review and have never struggled so much to find the right words to express how profoundly Peter transformed our home and our lives. Every day, my wife and I catch ourselves just staring at our home like first-time parents sitting in silent awe of a newborn. We simply can't believe this is real, and it's ours. We bought this neglected gem when the market crashed in '09 and people like us could suddenly afford a home in Pasadena. This 1925 Craftsman bungalow had great bones, but the exterior was in rough shape. Besides the crappy cosmetic "paint job" done by the prior owners to facilitate a quick sale, there was evidence of only 2 prior coats in 95 years and zero indication of any significant prep job, which is the most important thing. Other contractors said, "oh, it'll just take a couple days to prep." Wrong answer. Peter and his crew spent a solid week carefully scraping away decades of sloppiness down to the original bare redwood. Every hole was meticulously patched, every damaged clapboard replaced. They even made our 6 remaining original windows open again. Only the best primer and paints were used, as were meticulous best practices for job site cleanliness and safety. If you're having trouble deciding on colors as my wife and I did, I strongly recommend letting Peter pick your palette. After a couple conversations about color, Peter came up with a 4-color scheme he dubbed "Golden Gate Bridge Emerging from Daytime Fog," which is exactly what it looks like. Seriously. It's stopping traffic. If you've got an old wooden Victorian or Craftsman, and you're lucky enough to live within Peter's service area, set up a meeting and get a bid. Maybe he'll fall in love with your home, too.
