Al Glass and Mirror

My wife and I contacted AL Glass and Mirror about a new bathroom shower door. Alvaro Gomez (Al Jr.) came by to take measurements for an estimate and promised to follow up by sending images of their products with the final quote for the job. We received an estimate for $2000 and were asked for a deposit of 50 %. However, according to the California State Licensing Board, "Contractors cannot ask for a deposit of more than 10 percent of the total cost of the job or $1,000, whichever is less". When questioned about this, Mr. Gomez suggested a 30 % deposit instead. While I was reluctant (we have been burned by questionable contractors before), my wife still wanted to move forward and hire this company. I subsequently reached out to Mr. Gomez two or three more times over the next few days via email and text messages to ascertain if he had any more questions about the scope of the job, where exactly to send the deposit, and when they would start the work. We never heard back, though - not a peep - and eventually hired a different company. I don't know their exact MO, but it appears AL Glass and Mirror do not need any more work. If so, I'm happy for them, however, I don't quite understand why they would even come out and waste their own - as well as our - time and then just be in the wind. Odd and rather unprofessional.

We hired AL Glass for our master bath upgrade on the advice of our contractor Cavalier Builders. They did an excellent job and were not only on time but a day early on the install. Friendly, professional, communicative and thorough. Beautiful, fully functional doors on budget, on time and well done. Great work. 5 stars. Thanks gentlemen!

I called regarding an estimate and the man on the phone kept complaining about another customer from Burbank, that he had to drive in rush hour to do an estimate. Instead, he wanted me to give him measurements and find out the material of the frame before calling him back and before he'd come out for an estimate. Not recommended, terrible customer experience.
