I really enjoy going to Hamilton's to get my haircut because unlike most barber shops they don't do all the cussing and they don't talk about what all they did with a lady friend last night.

In addition to librarians, barbers are national and local treasures. You better have a good librarian, a good accountant, and a good barber. While I should have known what I wanted in a cut, I applaud the barber for being professional, efficient, and accommodating when helping me style my 90s Kobe Afro into a cool fade. Hamilton's appears to be a mainstay in East Oakland, so make it a point to support local businesses. There's parking; the shop has a "first come, first serve" number system; the conversations are lively. If you are not the talkative type, you better bring a book, just in case you have to wait.
