About Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery is a peaceful and beautiful place to visit, offering a tranquil atmosphere and well-maintained grounds. Despite its history, including a past speak easy operation, the cemetery is now a haven for quiet reflection. Visitors can walk and reflect among the historic headstones, enjoying the birds singing and the gentle breeze. The office staff, like Kenny, are friendly and helpful. While the grounds can be affected by the LA weather, the rain brings out the beauty of the cemetery, making it a lovely place to connect with the past and appreciate the present moment.

I heard Christine ida Collin’s was buried here back in 1964. So sad her son was never found . But the way she fought for him till her last dying breath and taking LAPD down at the time was so impressive. Good for her . Hope and her son were happily reunited in heaven if you haven’t seen the movie “Changeling” Angelina Jolie plays her part .

In 1926 a haunting was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, strange voices coming from the cemetey. As it turns out a speak easy was being operated at the park serving alcohol during proibition. The cemetery is much quiter on this rainny day.

My review is specifically for the crematorium next door, which I couldn't find here on Yelp. This was a quiet and pleasant experience picking up my brother's cremains from Mr. Garnett. He's a gentle and kind individual, and his calm manner made me feel I was in the presence of an unsung hero. The grounds in this area are quaint and untouched by modernity. The tiny chapel was where we conducted our business, signed a log book for the pick up, and discussed some interesting details about the cemetery and the crematorium. We also met one of Mr. Garnett's coworkers, a squirrel. Picking up ashes in this county is kind of a goose chase but this part, the final step, was peaceful and a welcome relief from the previous steps.
