In the recent past I used Dave and his crew to replace the main water line from the city meter to my home. The original Copper pipe from the mid 70's was corroding and within a short period had sprung several leaks. Being this pipe is underground, it may be a while untill you physically see the water break through the dirt. However it will be noticeable that your water bill has increased significantly.
