I had a long fall landing on my butt 2 years ago. I saw Lisa Elvin at California Spine and Orthopedics and had a series of appointments. She ordered the first of many ct scans. The ct scan in my chart mentions the SURGICAL site at L-5 S-1. WRONG SCAN! I have never had a back surgery. I am also confused because after 2 mri's to somehow confirm what IS wrong with my back she told me I had no fractures and simply a 73 year old back. I was attempting to live with my daily pain but kept returning hoping she could help me. At a recent appointment after one year since my fall she told me the latest ct scan said I did have a fracture. A month later (another ct scan) and she was back to her 73 year old back story....no sign of a fracture. I do not know what to believe anymore and have no faith in anything I have heard from her. I am very certain my pain is in my coccyx which she has ignored. Of course I have moved on and cannot recommend her fast talking reassuring bedside manner which is not backed by any real help.
I was referred to Dr. Paul Kim by my primary care physician. When I called for an appointment, I asked if this doctor operated on toes. They said he did. Dr. Kim told me the surgery would be about an hour. The surgery was unsuccessful. I was an idiot to allow him to operate on me again. When I got into the operating room, ready to go, Dr. Kim was on his cell phone at a corner desk. This time he cut the tendon on my toe causing neuropathy up half my calf. A friend referred me to another foot and ankle doctor. It was obvious he was a highly skilled surgeon. My case had become complicated because of the damage Dr. Kim had done to me. He said he had dealt with a few of Dr. Kim's patients. To date, I've had 3 corrective surgeries and am facing another final surgery. I recently heard of another person who went to Dr. Kim and her surgery was botched as well. I do not recommend this doctor to anyone.
I appreciated the ability to get in quickly. However, the office insisted on taking their own X-rays in house because they couldn't trust other imaging providers, but after looking at their own set of images, the doctor confidently declared a sprain based on what turned out to be very little examination and sent us away. Swelling and pain level wasn't going down, so a third set of X-rays and a thorough exam involving a tuning fork at a second opinion revealed a stress fracture and potential ligament damage which requires an MRI. I don't like exposing my kid to unnecessary radiation. The appointment felt like I paid for arrogance instead of expertise. Much better experience at the provider in San Francisco.
