The Hidden Dojo Martial Arts Schools

“We first started coming to The Hidden Dojo a few years ago. First my children were enrolled. I felt the Sensei had a great teaching style. I decided to try the teens and adults class for myself. I had not regularly exercised since school PE in the 90s, so I was terrified. But I ended up LOVING it. Everyone including classmates and staff are all kind, inviting and encouraging. I highly recommend trying a class.“

Okinawa-Te Karate Martial Arts Schools

“While I don’t personally participate in the karate classes at Okinawa-Te Karate, I absolutely love the yoga classes they offer. I’ve been attending Michelle’s class for several years now, and I try to go weekly whenever I can.

What I love most about her class is that it isn’t a traditional, rigid yoga style. A lot of traditional yoga can eventually become hard on the body, especially the joints, and often repeats a limited range of poses that don’t always reach deeper or overlooked areas of the body. Michelle’s approach is completely different. She is very non-traditional and incorporates a variety of movements and techniques she has learned into her yoga practice, allowing us to work parts of the body that you may not have even realized needed attention. She is truly a master at understanding how the body moves and finding new, intelligent ways to activate, strengthen, and release different areas.

Michelle always begins with a mindful conversation that gently invites you to reflect on how you think. She doesn’t tell you what to think, she simply offers cues that guide you deeper into your own awareness, which I find incredibly powerful for the mind, body, and spirit.

After class, we move into a deep relaxation and meditation. Sometimes it’s a short sound bath, sometimes a guided meditation, but every time it’s exactly what I need. I always leave feeling grounded, restored, and centered.

Almost all props are provided, so you can truly come as you are, though I would recommend bringing your own mat. The floors are padded like a traditional martial arts space, which makes it very comfortable on the knees and joints.

I’ve also met some of the karate instructors and staff, and everyone I’ve encountered has been kind, welcoming, and warm.

I highly recommend this place, whether you’re there for yoga, karate, or simply a supportive and respectful community.“
