As former professional dancers and current performing arts physical therapists, we were invited by the educational leadership to provide a lecture and movement workshop to help the SCC teachers learn more about the types of dance-related injuries we often see, as well as the importance of recognizing the growing human, and the create space about talking about injuries with dancers and families.
It is wonderful to see learning institutions such as SCC take action on increasing their awareness of health and wellness conversations and to holistically assist in their students' learning journeys.

I am a stickler for customer service and every single person I have spoken to here delivers amazing service each time. From when we initially signed up about a year ago to now, any time I have a simple or complex question, these women are attentive, polite and informative. *** While it was important for me to mention the above, what drove me to write this post is the above-and-beyond reproach of my daughter's teacher Ms. Chelsea. My daughter is hard of hearing and lately her hearing has decreased even more. We never had an expectation that Ms. Chelsea can direct special attention to our daughter just because of her hearing; afterall, this is a group class. Nonetheless, Ms. Chelsea has artfully figured out how to address our daughter and give her extra guidance in a way that ensures she is receiving the lesson while still teaching the entire class at the same time. Our daughter knows to stay close to Ms. Chelsea or when she can't be, watch her carefully as she demonstrates. But Ms. Chelsea always makes sure our daughter is able to follow along. Ms. Chelsea has a true talent in dealing with children. She isn't only great with my daughter. I watch her give specialized care to any child that needs it in a particular moment before moving on with the lesson. So to everyone at South Coast Conservatory, and a special shout out to Ms. Chelsea, a very sincere thank you to you. We appreciate you more than words can describe. You all have made this dance experience memorable in the best of ways.
