My son died the afternoon before I was leaving town. They worked with me during the evening to get everything handled so I could leave knowing he'd be cared for.

I was fortunate (or unfortunate) to have the opportunity to work with CSOC in July/Aug, and they wrestle absolutely wonderful. As the other fellow only child Yelper mentioned, it's a lot to take care of everything on your own.. My dad passed away at UCI toward end of July and even though my parents bought a funeral plan through Catholic Funeral Plan via Christ Cathedral, a lot of coordination in the beginning has to be done by family member. There were three mortuaries listed on my dad's funeral plan's docs, and I yelped all three because there was no way I had any idea how any of them were like. As an only child, losing your last parent is already too painful already; however, you now have to figure out the funeral arrangements next by yourself, which is also overwhelming. Fortunately, the hospital had "Cremation Society of Orange Coast" on their recommended list of mortuaries. They offer many types of services, from very simple to more elaborate, depending on the needs of the grieving party, and their prices are fair too. They also had many encouraging Google reviews, which helped me pick them too.
