This salon is wonderful! It's so random that it's tucked away in a small sleepy shopping center in small, sleepy Foster City (said with affection, I'm a longtime resident). It's a gorgeous, elegant space and the stylists are so talented! Hibiki is outstanding. We're always seem promptly at our appointment time. Easy parking!! Highly recommend.

I recently moved back to Foster City and am so grateful for Yumi and Viange Fuga. She truly is a master at her craft. I came in for a haircut and was first greeted warmly and then led to the changing room to put on my smock and put away my things in a locker. When I got to my seat I was greeted with a tiny, cute cup of hot chamomile tea. Yumi and I consulted about suitable hairstyle, and then she gave me the best hair wash + scalp and neck massage ever. After that my hair was quickly and meticulously cut and shaped beneath Yumi’s fast and diligent hands. I’m very happy with my cut and am actually looking forward to returning. I highly recommend this salon and Yumi for a top quality hair cutting experience!

I had been living in Tokyo for many years and moved back to Bay Area this year. I had the expectation that Viange salon was the best Japanese-style salon in the bay however the whole experience was not that good nor even compared with a regular Salon in Tokyo Shibuya area. I went to there for hair color and hair cut. the skills of the sensei are not bad, but overall atmosphere and service still have much to improve: 1. Usually hair salon would carry a bunch of hair fashion magazines but not here. So it makes it difficult to decide a fashion style. 2. Communication: the sensei seems to have some difficulty on communicating in English. Not many words or instructions from the sensei during the entire appointment . So it was a bit difficult for first-time customer to figure out what is expected and what service they have. Like they provide tea and beverage but the sensei didn't say anything just brought the tea to the table. If they could have more communication, the customer would feel more welcomed and not confused. 3. For hair color, there seems to be very limited number of colors to choose from. I showed my expected color and expected the sensei could make the color on his own. But unfortunately I have to choose from certain colors. And they don' t have the photos nor hair samples for the available colors. So it was very hard to decide the color. This is very different from any salons I've ever been. 4. During shampooing, usually the customer could get an eye cover or mask. But didn’t hear. Sorry for so many feedbacks. But hope those could help improve the overall customer experience.
I have lived in Tokyo for many years and moved back to the Bay Area this year. I expected Viange Salon to be the best Japanese salon in the Bay Area, but the overall experience was not very good and could not even be compared to a regular salon in Shibuya, Tokyo.
I asked for a cut and color, and although the technique itself was okay, I felt that the following points needed improvement:
1. Hair salons usually have a lot of fashion magazines, but I didn't find any here. Therefore, it was a little difficult to decide on a style.
2. Regarding communication, I felt that my teacher was having difficulty communicating in English. During the treatment, I hardly spoke, and as a first-time customer, it was difficult to understand what was expected of me and what kind of service was being provided. For example, there was a tea service, but it was suddenly placed on the table without any explanation. I think if there was more communication, people would feel more welcome and there would be less confusion.
3. Regarding colors, there seemed to be a very limited number of colors to choose from. I told them the color I wanted and was hoping that the teacher would make it for me, but I had to choose from a specific set of colors, and there weren't many bright colors to choose from. This was unlike any salon I've ever been to.
4. When shampooing, you are usually provided with a cover or mask to cover your eyes, but this time I didn't have one.
We apologize for providing so much feedback, but we hope these will help us improve the overall customer experience.

Seriously?! Spent $180 for haircut when stylist Aki dozed off multiple times! Yes, he literally closed his eyes and dozed off when blowing dry and cutting my hair. This was the most unprofessional haircut service I have ever experienced!

Definitely a salon that made me want to go back!I felt like it was the best salon in the bay area.I had my hair colored, permed straight besides thorough cut by Aki.I trusted him as professional and was able to completely relax because of his highly gifted skills. He also took time to do a delicate high-lighting on my hair very carefully.Whether it be a hair style of your own or not, I bet they are able to finish it up to completely match your characters and looks. You can even go and just ask for regular cut and they'll do the rest!Their original hair care products are also come in variety which I had tested every single one.I especially like their hair oil that I'm using it every single day now.I can't wait to see other new products in the future!

I like this place but the woman tries to upsell you on their products. Just stick to the haircuts and you'll be fine.

Brought kiddos over to trim their bangs and I wanted to ask questions about their hair treatment. You can book service online which is a plus.Got in at night with kiddos and got seated right away. They are very friendly and get down to work right away. The stylists were men so not as chatty as the other salon. But they are very efficient and both kids are done in 15 min. I asked my questions on hair treatments and were answered right away. We paid and got out very quickly. The salon is nicely decorated and clean. Love their oversized mirrors.
