Dr. Samina S. Makani, MD

This morning was my annual check-up with my gynecologist Dr. Samina Makani, in Encinitas. She's compassionate and very knowledgeable, and genuine. I always look forward to seeing her.
Dr. Makani has been my doctor for about 15 years and has taken excellent care of me as I traversed the many changes women go through. She is detail-oriented, gave me information and guidance, paid a lot of attention to test results and measured the levels of certain necessary things for a woman such as potassium and magnesium blood levels. Dr. Makani was recommended to me many many years ago and I've continued to see her to this day, probably around 15 years now. Dr. Makani is a wonderful doctor, full of knowledge, detailed-oriented, full of understanding, compassion, empathy, and caring. Dr. Makani is patient and lets me have time to ask questions. I wish she could be my primary care doctor too, not just my OB/GYN. She has been supportive of me through my pregnancy challenges and literally saved my life when she suspected something wasn't right with my blood pressure and ordered labs, discovering I had pre-eclampsia and got me into surgery right away, saving not only me but my baby. I appreciate Dr. Makani a lot. She is knowledgeable and cares about her patients. I come back to her yearly because she is efficient, friendly, and knowledgeable about my needs. In the past she noticed l had pain with the insertion of the speculum and suggested l get pelvic floor therapy. It was life changing. No other past ob/gyn ever suggested it but l am so thankful she did. I also wanted to have my progesterone levels checked and she was more than happy to add that onto my labs.
