We went in earlier this week to inquire about board and train & get a tour of the facility. We recently adopted a shepherd from the shelter and he began showing aggression towards humans. We met the owner Ben and he sat with us for 2 HOURS going into detail about his program and educating us on all his knowledge about rehabbing dogs. We had no appointment just simply walked in and everyone treated us so nicely. You can tell Ben absolutely loves what he does. Customer service has been amazing with Jamie, she has been so sweet and patient answering all our calls & questions! We were sold after this. After such a stressful week Ben has given us so much hope that with the right tools and maintenance our pup will be just fine. Koda starts board and train on Monday and we are so excited to see his progress!!
Ben is the BEST! We didn't work with him as much as we should have because my dog and I both had health issues, but he really changed the way our walks went and gave me lots of great advice and methods to deal with Mila's behavior. I highly recommend him for anyone who has a reactive dog, or any dog issues for that matter.
When we first rescued our pup from the Humane Society she was extremely reactive and distrustful of others, lunging at every person/dog/car/bike/ANYTHING that came near us, to the point that it was a safety concern for both our dog and everyone around us. We had worked with another trainer for a few months and made decent progress but eventually reached a plateau, which prompted us to seek additional help at Devotion to Dogs. Ben has been extremely helpful at guiding us in this process. He not only taught us how to train our dog to not lunge, but also how we can structure her environment to that she's more comfortable meeting others and being in public settings. Now, 4 months later, I feel like we have extremely good control over our dog. She almost never lunges (except when directly provoked/surprised, which we are much better at preventing now), and she follows our obedience commands to a tee. Above all, she is happier than ever. While we always maintain proper precautions, she is now able to go hiking with us off-leash and can join us at restaurants, which NO ONE (including our previous trainer) thought would be possible. This has been a huge relief and has allowed us to confidently take our dog out so she can finally enjoy the life that she deserves. As with anything in life, you will not see results unless you are willing to put in the time and effort. But if you are motivated to do right by your dog, and are willing to trust Ben and follow his advice, you will not be disappointed.
