“I was diagnosed with CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) in October of 2023 in my foot and calf following three injuries to my foot within three weeks of each other starting in August of 2023. I could not walk for over two months due to the pain. After three procedures (lumbar sympathetic nerve block), a year of Physical Therapy, pain management course, and desensitization I was able to walk with a cane and in my normal shoes size. I could do a little without, which was saved for home, but distance without and on hard ground I could not. I was told my cane would be permanent after the eighteen month mark, the only other possibility would be nerve medication that might help and I would have to deal with side effects. I said no to that. I cut out cane sugar from my nutrition intake, made some additional changes for my nutrition, kept active while being aware of my limitations, and lost some weight. In May of 2025 I tried acupuncture while traveling, but just one treatment. There was a difference, but not significant. Multiple doctors, even the previous one that did my first acupuncture treatment, told me there was no cure for CRPS and I found nothing in my own research either. I decided to try acupuncture after returning home still and found Dr. Joo.
Dr. Joo met with me the same week I contacted him and we discussed my situation. He recommended acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine. He told me his goal was for me to throw my cane in the trash. My initial thought was “yeah okay, it’s been over two years.” My goal was to have some reduction of pain, I wasn’t expecting an elimination of the pain that I have been dealing with and could not handle hoping for it - again multiple doctors and research said it wouldn’t happen.
Once completing four treatments though I realized that it really was a possibility and started his herbal medicine. Initially I only started acupuncture and cupping. I did not get hopeful or excited right away and proceeded with caution on my thoughts. I walked without the cane slowly, stretched and massaged my foot as Dr. Joo showed me. I took the medicine as directed and began walking longer without the cane in use (I took it with me just in case, my gait was very wonky after so long). I stopped taking the cane with me and after the sixth treatment I was able to jump and jog a little, happy tears right after the first thirty seconds. I still have some work to do strength wise, but the cane is finally gone after two years and four months and am no longer limited due to pain. Dr. Joo is now one of my favorite humans, he is the best and I definitely recommend going to him.“

“Referred by Kaiser Permanente through American Specialty Health. Dr Wenlin Ren is great, she uses thin needles, and most times electrode therapy for about 20-25 minutes. Then all is completed ending with a massage by her or her assistant.“
