I am a real estate broker and recently sold a home with very little information regarding the existing solar system. The Solar Detective completed a very detailed inspection of the system for my clients. He was very informative and knowledgeable. I will definitely be working with them again in the future!
We purchased a property in a remote area of SD. The property is 16 acres and has solar but the wifi signal is weak by the solar panels. We were having an issue with the output and SDG&E did not provide us with bills (a long story). Bill Horan came to our property, checked everything out, found that a breaker had been switched, and one of two invertors was broken. Because Solar Detective is independent (they don't sell solar panels, invertors, breakers, cleaning services, etc), you can get a comprehensive assessment of your problems and needs. We are so appreciative and I don't know that am explaining the situation well. But, we were hesitant to ask a solar company to come out (the former owner had installed these panels, there was no associated company monitoring) because they would try to sell us more panels and we did not know who else to ask (that might also try to sell us the services that they just happen to provide!)... Thank you to Solar Detective. Well worth the investment in INDEPENDENT advice (and they fixed half the issue, advised on the remaining issue, and providing guidance going forward, including how to get wifi to work, potentially, at this remote location).
I normally only post on these forums if a company or product is exceptionally bad or exceptionally great. Fortunately, this time I'm here to talk about a company, The Solar Detective and specifically Bill Horan, that went above and beyond to help me with my solar issue. Bill originally inspected my solar system about 2 years ago when I purchased my house. Just as a note, the next part I describe was done without charge from Bill or the company. A few months ago, I discovered my system was putting out zero power. I wasn’t quite sure how to attack the problem, so I sent Bill an email. He walked me through a few basics to get the system back. When it couldn’t happen, he sent me a couple recommendations of companies to come take a look. Once it was diagnosed, it was determined the inverter was bad. It was under warranty, but the responsible company kept stretching out the time. I decided it was in my best interest to get a new inverter immediately rather than wait indefinitely on the company. It turns out getting string inverters was becoming quite difficult, so Bill called up a bunch of places that might have them and was able to get an inverter and installer to come set me back up in less than a week. Since then, I’ve been back to being fully up. I can’t say how much I appreciate the work Bill Horan from The Solar Detective did. There’s no way I would have been able to get this done myself. And the fact that I got all this service based off of my original home inspection is still astonishing to me. Thanks again Bill.
