We needed some major renovation work involving the conversion of a outdoor sun room into enclosed living space, and we knew it would be a complicated project so we hired a local building designer well-versed in Davis codes. With the plans and city approval in hand we started approaching the big-name local construction firms and were immediately met with resistance, as all insisted we shelve our design plans ($$!!!!) and use their own designers. They wanted to control all aspects of the construction, including the design, and although I respect that, I was not about to throw away $6,000 and an approved city permit.
