194 Diablo Rd, Danville“My kids have been practicing martial arts at America's Best Karate of Danville and enjoyed it a lot. My son started as a Karate A-Z student (led by Master Lerma), graduated the program and then continued as an ABK student. His younger sibling has trained Karate A-Z classes (led by Ms. Mulvey) and graduated the program. We moved out from the Bay Area and martial arts classes designed by Master Instructor Anthony Lerma are one of the things my family really miss. It was a challange to find a martial arts school that is focused on students character development, looks for various ways to keep students motivated, engaged and growing at individual pace. I really admired also their comprehensive and holistic approach - where well being, self care and practice were key to success of their students even outside of the martial arts. Master Lerma is a charismatic person, who has vast knowledge and practical experience and he developed a very comprehensive curriculum over the course of the decades.A year ago I enrolled as one of the first students of the new RBSD program, which is a self defence system designed and constantly developed by Master Lerma. Although we live abroad now, I have regular online classes and continue my journey with martial arts. The RBSD is a very practical system that allows one to feel confident in most of the real life situations. The idea of sets of basic eights helps memorise and establish proper reflexes to respond immediately to various threats no matter if they come from someone, who practices popular martial arts like kick boxing, bjj, mma, karate or someone who is simply experienced in street fights. Master Lerma proposes new drills regularly and changes the focus of our private classes so that, I can stay engaged, have fun and grow my skills. I fully recommend their school, ABK classes for kids and youths, and the RBSD system for adults.“

500 Bollinger Canyon Way # A9, San Ramon“Both my kids (now 10 and 6) have been attending Black Tiger TKD for almost 2 years now. Instructors are very professional and know how to keep the kids engaged during the sessions.
Focus on discipline, respect, self control and resilience are there principles and they try in every class that these principles are ingrained in all of their students. Rewarding kids for focus and performance keep the kids engaged and thrive for more.
They also provide leadership training for black belt students which increases there confidence which can be seen from their attitude. Students are also encouraged to participate in internal and external competitions.
We highly recommend Black Tiger TKD and are very grateful to have found them.“

7425 Village Pkwy, Dublin“As a parent, I can’t say enough good things about Sky Martial Arts. Both my boys have been students for a decade now. The positive changes I’ve seen in them have been truly impressive. The instructors are not only skilled in martial arts but also fantastic role models for kids. They teach with patience, encouragement, and a real sense of care for each student’s development. What stands out most is how Sky Martial Arts builds confidence and respect in children. My boys has become more disciplined, both at home and at school, and have gained a noticeable boost in self-esteem. The lessons go beyond kicks and punches— students learn about perseverance, teamwork, and how to treat others (and parents) with kindness. The community here is warm and supportive. We’ve made friends with other families and always feel welcomed at every class and event. I highly recommend Sky Martial Arts to any parent looking for a positive, enriching environment for their child! My boys are all grown up now. The older one is in college, and has his 2nd degree black belt. My younger one will be a HS Senior next year. He is full of confidence with his 3rd degree certification and will soon be starting his TA assignments. My sincerest gratitude to Sky Martial Arts and their instructors. —from a grateful parent“

3413 Mount Diablo Blvd, Lafayette“My daughter has never been one to “yay let’s go do a high core physical activity “ kind of girl, so when I told her I wanted her to try a karate class she wasn’t too happy with me. Four months later and after that one class and she’s loving it! She can’t wait for class day and I can see her getting stronger and more and more confident with herself! Sensei Tom is very disciplined and fun with the kids and adults who take the classes. If you have a kid whom you want to really learn how to defend him or herself against anyone trying to harm them, this is the class. Best Sensei ever as my daughter says!“

He was always accommodating to our needs and schedules. His positive attitude with all the kids is something I have witnessed and know the kids will learn from. The atmosphere is so much fun that my kids are always happy to be there and truly enjoy learning their katas and sparring while having so much fun, a successful combo of learning and enjoying the experience. If you or your kids are contemplating a martial arts dojo, I would highly recommend Mires Martial Arts dojo.“

5100 Clayton Rd A-10, Concord“My daughters are learning Kung Fu and thriving at One Tribe with Sifu Mike, Sifu Luke, Master Barbosa and all the wonderful sijehs and sihings. They are excellent teachers and are able to connect with each student, helping them improve their physical and listening skills while teaching them values of respect, integrity, and kindness.Standouts for me at this school are the Sanda/Sanshou kickboxing sparring for kids, the seminars and family events, and the strong female role models. As a parent, I’ve watched my daughters be inspired to do better and have more confidence. As an observer, the classes are fun and the Sifu’s are engaging, reasonably strict, and also have a great sense of humor.I highly recommend one tribe for their excellence in teaching Kung fu and for their wonderful and welcoming family atmosphere.“

7063 Commerce Cir Suite I -& J, Pleasanton“My 7-year-old son has been attending Kokua Martial Arts Studio for about two months now, and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. The promotional offer was a fantastic way to start, including a uniform, which made the transition even smoother.
The staff at Kokua is absolutely incredible—patient, supportive, and truly dedicated to each child's growth. One of my biggest concerns before enrolling my son was his struggle with ADHD and defiance, which impacted both his school performance and home life. I believed martial arts could help him build self-confidence, respect, and focus—and I can confidently say that Kokua has exceeded my expectations.
Since starting classes, my son has shown remarkable improvement. He is more engaged and focused at school, and I’ve noticed a positive shift in his behavior at home as well. His confidence continues to grow with each lesson, and I love how the instructors reinforce accountability, not just in the dojo but in everyday life. One unique aspect I truly appreciate is their belt stripe system—if a student receives a disciplinary action at home or school, parents have the option to remove a stripe, requiring the child to earn it back. While no child wants to see a red stripe on their belt, this method is incredibly effective in teaching responsibility and discipline.
It's clear that everyone at Kokua—from the instructors to the students—genuinely cares about each child's development. I plan to keep my son enrolled for as long as possible, and I highly recommend Kokua Martial Arts Studio to any parent looking to instill confidence, discipline, and respect in their child!“

4275 Rosewood Dr #28, Pleasanton“My son likes the class very much. He was so excited after the first trail class and even stay outside watching two more upper level classes. Although He still has three trail classes, he decided to enroll after yesterday's. He had a warm welcome and interaction with the master since he came in. It helped him a lot to merge himself into the class. He feels good about the whole class and thankful for the masters who helped him to fit in the class, understand the situation and standing besides him gave him the company and telling him what should do so that he feels relaxed, confidence and playful. Really a good place for your little ones have fun and valuable time there!“
“My kids went here for 6 yrs and we only left because we relocated to east coast. The owners are the best they treated us like family. My kids loved it here!“
“Hung Sing performed at my wife’s birthday party and they were beyond outstanding. The two lions made so many wonderful dances and maneuvers. The guests were thrilled and fully entertained for about 30 minutes. Tenny the owner was pleasant to communicate with. I would highly recommend Hung Sing for your celebration. There were 8 members who performed. Great dance group.“

4330 Clayton Rd, Concord“I'm retired. I live in a fairly safe neighborhood. One evening, I'm walking my dog. I'd say we're only a mile or so from my home. About a hundred yards from us a stranger yells, "Nice dog." I reply, "Thank you." Smiling, he asks, "How much will you sell him for?" Surprised and somewhat flattered, I reply, "He's not for sale." Then with a blank facial expression, I believe he says something like, "Too bad, I might have to take him from you!" Not believing what was said, I said, "Excuse me?" Speaking with more conviction, he responds, "I might have to take him from you." Being street smart, I really don't know if I was more annoyed, stunned or amused. I always try to avoid confrontation because the worst-case scenario can always lead to violence. Now having been around the block a few times, I know that the last thing you do is to ignore a street challenge of confrontation. While walking toward him, I'm sizing him up. He's at least 35 years younger, 3 or 4 inches taller and at least 20 lbs. heavier. I doubt if he's in better shape but if he is, so what. Finally, I'm within arm's length. Even if he has a knife or gun, there's no doubt in my mind. I can take him. Training, preparation with confidence and real-life combat skills for the sometimes not so nice world we live in; that's what you'll get from Gustavo Desperetti, chief instructor and owner of Dogo Krav Maga. Family oriented, you'll find that he genuinely cares about your development and ability to protect yourself and loved ones. If you want straight forward self-defense instruction in a caring, supportive considerate environment, you need to check out Dogo Krav Maga. Gustavo is a Pro's Pro. I rate Dogo Krav Maga "5" because I can't rate it 10. Oh, and by the way, I still have my dog and about a week later, the guy in question walked across my path. I suppose for good reason, he acted as if he didn't see me.“

“Aikido of Alamo is an amazing community more than just a martial arts dojo. Classes are offered 7 days a week. This provides a opportunity for different instructors and for me to make several classes a week even with a busy schedule. Many of the senior students teach classes or fill in substituting giving a chance to learn from a variety of perspectives.“
