Humboldt Jiu Jitsu

These guys were really awesome. I had already heard of them highly-spoken of before by a trusted friend, but recently I was passing thru the area and dropped in to train. I had a blast, and learned a lot. The head instructor Monty is a super chill guy and teaches some really solid old school jiu-jitsu that works. I especially had a lot of fun at their Saturday open mat- lots of friendly people, even from different gyms, coming together to share their take on tactics, style and spar. I was also lucky enough to be there just as a purple belt was being promoted to brown by 2 long-time black belts. It was a really special thing to be a part of. So shout out to Emily! OSS!

I travel a lot, and I always make it a point to find the best local academy to train at. I spent a week in Humboldt while visiting my kid in college over Thanksgiving break and had the chance to train here.

Every academy I’ve visited has had great jiu-jitsu and great people, but this place is on another level in every aspect. The professors and students are extremely technical, welcoming, and genuinely friendly.

Thank you, Professor Monty, and the entire team for being so amazing and hospitable. I’m looking forward to training with you again on my next visit!

My family has trained here 6 years now. My husband, three children, and even myself for 2 1/2 years.
We love the gym, and have been through all the ups and downs of COVID and post-COVID with the gym.
Coach/owner Monte is a wealth of knowledge and technician. Coach Marcello was and is beloved, but he has returned to Brazil. Coach Jack and Nato have been excellent leading the youth classes.

Kids have fun and have great technique, gym is clean and friendly and will push you to be your best. Staff is knowledgeable, approachable, and kind.

We love our gym. Highly recommend.
