About Spartacus Gym
Spartacus Gym has been a fixture in East Van since 1974, providing a wide range of fitness amenities and classes to its members. The gym offers an extensive collection of weights, cardio equipment, and group classes such as Yoga and martial arts like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing. Customers appreciate the friendly staff, great atmosphere, and "old school" vibe of the gym, though some wish the weekend hours were the same as weekdays or that it was open 24 hours. The personal trainers are described as thorough, caring, and helpful in assisting members in achieving their fitness goals. The gym maintains a well-organized and clean facility, with a great variety of machines and free weights, making it easy for members to switch up their routines. Memberships and pricing are considered incredibly fair, and the gym has a reputation as a reliable and long-standing community hub, having been around since 1975.
Tried a jiu jitsu class here and had such a blast! Visiting a new gym can be intimidating but the environment here was soo helpful, friendly and completely ego free. Roy's teaching is clear, practical and super effective especially for smaller people learning how to handle and submit larger opponents. You can tell he’s incredibly passionate about what he does and makes safety a top priority. Super fun and empowering, I’m excited to come back!
Okay gym. No AC and poor circulation in the summer. Some of the equipment could be replaced or repaired. All that is fine enough but the music has been HORRENDOUS for the past couple of weeks and has actually made me consider cancelling my membership.
Today included an honest to god 8 minute long honky-tonk song with a 2 minute long ragtime piano solo in the middle. Followed by free falling.
Front desk manager is a nice guy but the music NEEDS to change.

The one major drawback for this gym, and the reason for 3 stars, is because the air quality and circulation is the worst I’ve experienced in any gym. In the summer time it is so hot and humid in there that if I can’t go in the morning I don’t go at all. They just toss on some ceiling fans and hope for the best.
Spartacus, if you read this you need to invest in AC or some floor fans or SOMETHING. The air in...read full review
