My daughter was on the fence about starting Jiu jit su, but Professor Tony and his team made her feel so comfortable and she loves it now!

My husband and son both train here and it's such a great environment! The owner and professor is great with all ages and really invests in anyone willing to try. They also periodically host women's self defense training and it's a must!

Classes were great! We loved our pre-schooler’s coaches.
An issue arose when the owner of the facility asked if our daughter was talking to her boyfriend when she was chatting with one of the coaches before class. Coach is I believe in late teens or early adulthood? We found it inappropriate and sent an email to address the situation. They responded with a generic safety statement and followed up with the decision to part ways with us and refund our remaining month. There was no apology or acknowledgment that the comment the owner made was in poor taste. I can no longer recommend this business due to the comment and how the feedback we gave was received.

Professor Tony was kind enough to get me a few one on one lessons before rejoining a full BJJ class. Now that I’m back in the group, these other students are the most welcoming and helpful to newbies or returning students. Great atmosphere and people for any level of practitioner.

Both my kids deal with anxiety and sensory processing issues. It took some convincing, but I got them to agree to observe a class at Tony’s studio. I really wanted my kids to try jiu jitsu to build their confidence, maybe desensitize their sensory stuff, but also because they really don’t care for any physical activity (they both have hEDS so it makes them tired easily) and I keep trying to introduce other options to see if we can find something they’ll like.
During the class my son got really overwhelmed and started having a panic attack :(. It was definitely harder on him than I expected considering he was just watching. The idea of being held down triggered his claustrophobia and he started getting really worked up so we stepped outside for a bit. Surprisingly, my daughter was totally into it (I expected the opposite from both of them lol). Afterward, Tony took the time to sit down and talk with both of them, speaking to each of them about their concerns, questions and hesitancies.
My kids don’t usually open up to new people (not even most of our close family), so I was really impressed that they were doing so with Tony and I think it speaks volumes about his ability to connect with kids and gain their trust. He was patient and straightforward with them…he had a great way of being really direct, not sugarcoating things and describing expectations while balancing their worries and intimidation of it all. He just talked it through with them until they didn’t have any more questions, all the while I could literally see my son calming down and start seeing the positive of it all and seeing it as a solution; a means of enabling him to control his emotions in the future.
Needless to say, both of my kids who hate physical activity want to try jiu jitsu 😭…I’m really hopeful this will help their confidence and anxiety in ways other activities haven’t. Highly recommend you take your kids if they struggle with confidence, sensory issues, tend to have behavioral issues, sensory seeking etc etc. I can’t wait to report back what their experiences are like!! Ty so much, Tony!!!💪💪
