Fantastic 1st experience at this little shop tucked in the Irondale historical downtown! Laura is no nonsense when it comes to color and cut. It can sometimes be traumatic to change hair stylists, Laura made me feel right at home and at ease. Needless to say, my hair turned out great, I love it!! Laura is a well seasoned stylist with an engaging personality. If you are looking for a change and/or need guidance from a seasoned professional, Laura is the one!

Wonderful afternoon with Laura, cut and style just what I needed to get the new year off right. I enjoy my visits with her and will be going back in the near future for another treat to myself. I had gone to the same hairstylist for almost 10 years when she suddenly moved out of state. I was devastated! Because of this, I hadn't had a haircut in 7 months, since I didn't know who I could trust at a reasonable price. I was THISCLOSE to heading to a well-known cheap hair cutting chain close to my house, when I found Box Car Salon on Yelp. I called to see if I could come today, and I was happy to get an appointment. According to their Facebook page, I knew they were located next to the Irondale Cafe. When I pulled up, I saw a barber shop sign, and was a little thrown off. Turns out, Box Car Salon is operated out of the old Irondale Barber Shop, and they have kept the historic sign up. As I approached, I saw the Box Car Salon sign in the window and I knew I was in the right place. Laura Box of Box Car Salon is very knowledgeable and friendly. She has had many years of experience not only cutting hair, but also teaching students how to cut, color, and style hair (among many other things, I'm sure). She spent a good amount of time washing my hair (my favorite part--just feels so good!). Then she began cutting and styling. She did ask for my opinions and thoughts throughout in order to get to know my preferences, which I appreciate so much. I asked for a simple haircut, which was a very reasonable $35. However, Laura and her staff offer coloring services as well as gel nails, and more. Overall, I was very happy with my haircut results, and I know I'll be back in way less than 7 months!
