My school used to fight full contact at major tournaments, often facing a few Oyama students in later rounds for first and second place in weight division. I live in Birmingham now, so I may have to stop by the dojo and see if any old guys recognize me, if they're still around.
Been coming and going since 2011 but I'm here to stay now. Excellent place to better your body and mind,and learn some superb self defense techniques for the outside world. Shihan Dai Karl is an incredible Teacher and person to learn from as well as the morning Sensei David and a plethora of excellent intelligent Sempai's and this dojo is managed by the Saiko Shihan(Grandmaster of Oyama Kyokushin) Yasuhiko Oyama so there's literally no better place to learn martial arts from since you're getting direct teachings from the person who learned this art from the original creator of Kyokushin...Osu! I attended this school and I wish I could have stayed at it, but I had to move for work to Florida. If you want real authentic Karate, this is where you go. The training is excellent.Now I know what you are thinking, why should I trust this review? Well, I grew up around the world and I used to train karate with the Olympic team in Pakistan. Having seen so many different schools way of practicing karate I can authentically say that the Oyama Karate style is the best for self defense, discipline, and for participating in realistic tournaments.
