I’ve been to a *lot* of aquariums and while this one is very small, it’s actually really well done with an impressive collection of species, a massive touch tank, and very engaged staff. Some of the highlights include wolf eels, a cabazon, a giant pacific octopus, and a really diverse touch tank. For its size, it’s pretty great. I know many reviews say it’s overpriced but frankly everything in Alaska is expensive for tourists (and locals) and you’re supporting an important effort here.
My family of 3 was on an Alaskan cruise. We got off just to adventure no excursions. We are so grateful to have stopped here with our daughter. Thank you for talking and educating us on everything we asked and more. We will never forgot our time here. It was a quick walk maybe 13 minutes from the shuttle drop off. A beautiful walk near the water. Don’t book an excursion through cruises. Travel straight here!
We enjoyed visiting the Sitka Sound Science Center while exploring Sitka.
What We Liked:
• The touch tanks were the highlight of our visit. My son and I enjoyed being able to gently interact with and learn about the different marine animals.
• Informative exhibits that provided insight into Alaska's marine ecosystem.
• A hands-on learning experience that appeals to both children and adults.
• The opportunity to see local sea life up close.
Things to Know:
• We visited with a larger group, which made some areas feel a bit crowded at times, particularly around the touch tanks and exhibits.
