Sharing this recommendation my mother recently wrote: “My mother passed while living at my house in June of this year and at the age of 103. Obviously, at that age, most people would probably have made burial decisions for their loved ones in advance, but in my case, I think hope and denial kept me from doing that. During the last week of in-home care it became obvious that she would not recover. Through Checkbook.org I was aware of Becks and their incredibly high ratings but I did not contact them initially and went instead with a very high profile mortuary well known to residents of North Seattle. I had decided to opt for cremation with no special service at that time. Since I had no prior experience, I had simple questions about the process – at that point cost was a much lesser consideration - and knowing what my mental state would be after she passed, I wanted to prepare any legal documents I could in advance. I called the other funeral home, asking to speak with a funeral director and was directed instead to another group which I would now refer to as the "gatekeepers". After a very long, frustrating and almost comedic conversation in which I kept repeating that I just wanted information so I could begin planning, and the respondent repeating back to me that first I must have a "plan", she finally offered to send me materials via email. What arrived was very large packet containing legal contracts to be signed between the funeral home and myself, as well as a very exhaustive price list (pages worth). The accompanying message offered to move things forward as soon as I provided a credit card or means of future payment. At that point I realized that their definition of "plan" simply meant some initial agreement regarding services and payment. Even though they claim to have seven funeral directors, I would not be allowed to discuss any of this with them until I had passed that first hurdle. Going back to Checkbook, I decided to call Becks which turned out to be one of the best decisions in my life. That is when I first met Joshua Behn, the funeral director who answered the phone and quickly began to assess my situation and determine how he could accommodate my wishes in the best and easiest way possible. Within hours, I received the documents that were required, even though I think my request may have been outside their norms for processing, and I was able to return them to him where he kept them on file until they were needed. When she passed, I went into their beautiful facility in Edmonds and met Joshua in person. It was then that I realized fully how important that decision had been. I don't think I can find words to express how meaningful his presence was to me, even though the arrangements were simple and required very little interaction. He is one of those extraordinary people that you would want to have in your life, in any capacity. My limited dealings with other staff were all very good, but Joshua is the person who remains in my memory as the one who helped me get through the most difficult days of my life. I hope when I next need his personal services, he will be long, long, long retired. But in the event he is not, it is comforting to know he will be there to help my family, as he helped me.”

I called Beck's at random for pre-need planning when my spouse was clearly dying and got wonderful pre-need service and advice from Jacob Alvarez. It turned out that Beck's Restlawn cemetery was the perfect place for our needs, so a few weeks later we scheduled an appointment at Beck's Tribute Center to set up paperwork and pay. The Tribute Center is charming and immaculately clean. COVID-19 protocols were carefully followed. Craig Nelson helped us with the Memorial Service, one that suited our family's needs. The interment ceremony worked well for our family. Jacob is helping us with the design of the custom grave marker. We appreciated Beck's website and all that it had to offer. Wendy put together the Moving Tribute so that we were very happy with it. The online obituary has been shared with many friends and family members. The Memorial Service was livestreamed via Zoom, which was greatly appreciated, but there was no way to easily get live tributes from family members not present at the service itself. Also, music/tributes to be played at the service was requested to be on a CD. Because we had made arrangements prior to my spouse's death, the trauma of his death at home was eased by knowing who to call. The two gentleman who handled my spouse's body were extremely careful and respectful. Craig was very helpful in preparing the information for the death certificate. I was totally unfamiliar with all aspects of death and burial, and Beck's gave me as much time, advice, and support as I needed.
