I try to shop at locally owned optical shops as much as I can and I have mixed feelings about this place. The exam itself was fine. The doctor has been in business for over 45 years so he's going to be knowledgeable, but there were some things he said that we're more of a sales pitch than actual facts. Which, I understand you need to make your sales. My problem was the condition of the shop. It was very dated, dirty and unkept in general. I am now a repeat customer of Southmore Optical. I used to go to the tv advertised place Americas Best, only to find out that their commercials were just a come on advertisement to get you in the door. No service, no low prices, just get you in and take your money($750) and then get out. All before I found this family owned and operated place for your glasses and contacts. This is NOT a place you want to do business. It's old and dirty, with a distinct smell of urine. The film-flam man that runs it is so condescending, all the while he's ripping you off. The "specials" look good, but are not. He put me in trifocals, even though i didn't want or need them, then he overcharged me $530. When I asked for a copy of my RX, he insisted my exam was free and I owed him another $95 to get a copy. I would gouge out my eyes before I would go back to this little man.
