I try to shop at locally owned optical shops as much as I can and I have mixed feelings about this place. The exam itself was fine. The doctor has been in business for over 45 years so he's going to be knowledgeable, but there were some things he said that we're more of a sales pitch than actual facts. Which, I understand you need to make your sales. My problem was the condition of the shop. It was very dated, dirty and unkept in general. I went to get a copy of my son's prescription and he seemed very hesitant to give me one. It was expiring in a few days and he said he'd have to put a void on it and once it expires it would be no good and my son wouldn't be able to see properly if I try to fill it. So my son will all of a sudden be blind once the Rx expires?? I've been getting him glasses since he was 6 and he's 15 now and I was in the optical business for 8 years. Doctor did not know that. It was a big corporate company that's why I only shop small business now. They are driven by sales not service. You may get a decent sales person, but behind them is a general manager getting on their butt about their sales goal. In short, if you want a decent pair of glasses, a decent exam, and at a decent price and don't mind the musty smell and outdated equipment then this is the place for you. If you want an updated and cleaner experience still shop small business. Look up Nasa Vision and ask for Tracy.

I am now a repeat customer of Southmore Optical. I used to go to the tv advertised place Americas Best, only to find out that their commercials were just a come on advertisement to get you in the door. No service, no low prices, just get you in and take your money($750) and then get out. All before I found this family owned and operated place for your glasses and contacts. The owner Dave, is very knowledgeable, and takes the time with you, like it used to be in medical offices. You are not a number but a person. He doesn't rush you along, but answers your questions until you are satisfied and know what it is that is happening with your eyes. The service is excellent, and professional. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the service that comes with each pair I buy. I was able to get two pair of glasses, for LESS than the price of one pair elsewhere. I would and do, highly recommend this establishment when you are in need of anything optical related. It's these small businesses that we should be spending our money, and taking good care of, like they do for us.

This is NOT a place you want to do business. It's old and dirty, with a distinct smell of urine. The film-flam man that runs it is so condescending, all the while he's ripping you off. The "specials" look good, but are not. He put me in trifocals, even though i didn't want or need them, then he overcharged me $530. When I asked for a copy of my RX, he insisted my exam was free and I owed him another $95 to get a copy. I would gouge out my eyes before I would go back to this little man.
