Lone Star Retrievers, LLC provides top-notch training for dogs. Their team is friendly, helpful, and keeps owners informed about their dog's progress. The facility is excellent, and the staff takes great care of the dogs, even providing expert veterinary care when needed. Training programs, including obedience and gun dog courses, yield impressive results, with dogs returning home reliable, obedient, and friendly. Owners have reported successful hunting trips and receive compliments on their well-trained dogs.
Where do I begin?? There are no words to describe my experience with Tom, Sam, and their staff. Long story but here it goes! I was not looking for a trainer as I train dogs myself however I train pointers.... well my pro trainer Cory proceeds to tell me that there is such a difference that if I try it myself it would be trial and error.... so we took a trip to a AKC Hunt Test just so I could see what a difference it was... Well my eyes were opened and I knew immediately I would have to send my retriever to school. I paid close attention that day and I watched all the Pro Trainers with their dogs well this one guy stood out to me, I had no clue who he was and he had no clue I was watching... All his dogs were happy to do what was asked of them and the majority of them excelled at what they were being asked to do, they were loved on and not jerked around by a leash and not scolded when they made a mistake. Well I took notice of the t-shirt that he had on and on my way home I looked him up. I done my own research and decided to call him. Mind you this was several months before my Whiskey was even in her mommas belly, I started talking to Tom and Emily to find the best age to bring her and what they wanted me to work on while I had her here with me. I only got to keep my girl at home with me for a little over 2 months before she went to her second home (6 and 1/2 hours awaf frome me), Lone Star Retrievers, she has been there since May 2025 and I will be picking her up tomorrow, she will only be with me for a few short months so that we can both learn each other and function as a team. Tom has taught Whiskey in a way that is only positive and he has kept me updated along the way. He has loved my girl like I love my girl. He has went out of his way to find things that work for her that do not necessiarly work for other dogs. Poodle Noodle?? He invented it for my struggling to swim poodle!! Never did he get disheartened with her never did he say she would not make it never did he say this is not for her. He actually worked through her issue and we will continue to work on it when she gets home. He is the best of the best and when I say that I am telling you I have heard other Pro Trainers tell me that I put her at the best possible place for a retirever. So do I recommend Lone Star Retrievers....Absolutley with out a shadow of doubt! Tom is the retriever whisperer and knows his stuff! I am so thankful to have found him and I am thankful for what he does not only for me but for the doggies!!
Tom and his team exceeded my expectations. Tell Tom exactly what you want and that is exactly what you will get. Very pleased with the results.
I couldn’t recommend this outfit more. To use the phrase “power team” doesn’t do Tom and Samantha justice. Tom loves what he does and more importantly loves the dogs he works with. If y’all are thinking / looking on anyone to train your gun dog or competition dog, don’t look any further.
