The haircut was great and the barber has been a part of the community for a long time so he can point you in the right direction if you have questions. He seems to be a good, honest, hardworking man. I plan to make him my permanent barber while I live in the area.
Gilbert's an older fellow, exmilitary. He did great on my shorter haircut, with untextured hair. I get the impression that he is not experienced with anything more than around a 2b texture, so be aware. He went shorter than I asked for, but it turned out fine for me. His prices are low, at $15 for a cut (in late 2023) and the same for a shave. If the smell of tobacco bothers you, then you may be bothered by the cigar lounge next door.
This barber shop has everything a gentleman could ask for. Seriously, this guy does a good job. Period. I don't go to anyone else. His skills are unmatched and he is one of the only barbers I know that is skilled and confident enough to use a straight razor. Old school style of his shop is a throwback and his friendly attitude is always nice to see. You can't get much more from anywhere. His prices are simple and very affordable. I often tip him for his service simply for his kindness and his skill.
