About Joppa Mountain Pottery

Joppa Mountain Pottery is a special place where handmade stoneware and raku pottery are created by two talented artists. Each piece is either wheel-thrown or hand-sculpted, then decorated, carved, painted, glazed, and kiln-fired by the owners themselves. Because every piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike, making each one unique and full of character. Visitors enjoy the warm welcome from the artists, who are happy to share their process and stories behind each creation. The studio is situated on a beautiful property with waterfalls, caves, and scenic views, making a visit more than just a shopping trip — it's an adventure. The owners are kind, genuine, and eager to teach, offering classes for those interested in learning pottery techniques. Customers appreciate the opportunity to see the studio, observe the kilns, and hear funny stories about the craft. The pottery is reasonably priced and perfect for those looking to own a one-of-a-kind piece with a story. Many visitors have expressed their joy at discovering this hidden gem, whether stopping by during vacation or following the owners’ work online through their Etsy shop. Overall, Joppa Mountain Pottery offers a memorable experience for anyone who values authentic, handcrafted art.

If you are content to pop into the nearest big box store and pick out a bowl or mug that is mass produced, this is not your place. If, on the other hand, you want to honor a small business that is owned by two talented artists, purchase hand made stoneware and raku and always have a tale to tell, you will find that and more. Seeing the studio and kilns, alongside their completed products, was inspiring. They are genuine, kind and welcoming. In fact, they give...read full review

Just left your place. I have been following y’all for years, but on a tee-total fluke, we ended up on your road on vacation. I knew that road name sounded real familiar to me, but it took a minute before I realized why. I AM SO GLAD WE STOPPED!!!!! I loved talking to y’all, seeing your studio and just thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience - thank you!!!!! Amy Massey Masseyville Pottery Starkville, MS

Ann and McDonald Crosby are very gracious hosts. They made us feel welcome. We learned about the process of making pottery. It was magical. They’re very talented and their art was decently priced. Plenty of photo opps. Even the land the business is on is magical with waterfalls and caves. 10/10 recommended!
