About THE STABLES at Palmer Gulch
The Stables at Palmer Gulch offers an enjoyable horseback riding experience suitable for both first-time and experienced riders. The knowledgeable guides, such as Julie, expertly match riders to well-trained horses, ensuring a relaxing and scenic journey through the Black Hills. Visitors can also enjoy a Chuckwagon dinner with delicious food, live music, and comedy, making it a perfect way to end a day in the area. The stables are well-organized, with horses having shade and good condition tack and stand boxes. Reviews highlight friendly staff, especially wrangler Syndey Smith, who made the ride fun and interactive by engaging with everyone and checking on riders’ well-being. Families with children loved the 1-hour trail ride, with many mentioning that even young kids who had never ridden before felt safe and enjoyed it. The open meadow setting with mountain views adds to the experience, and petting the wagon horses was a favorite part for many visitors. Overall, The Stables provides a fun, memorable, and safe adventure for all ages, especially first-time riders.
Loved our experience going horseback riding here while on vacation. Loved our trail guide and our horses were so tamed that my 11 and 12 year old kids had no problems. Will be back!
It was a perfect day. The guide was friendly and engaging. No one had any issues with the ride. The instructions right before the ride were incredibly helpful 👌. And Chiszm (Cheese) is a sweet, beautiful boi.
Our Three girls aged 7, 8, and 9 loved their trail ride. This is one Black Hills attraction that you can come early too, because the kids love to pet the horses in their stalls before the ride. The horses were gentle and easy to ride.
Remember the strict maximum weight allowed for a rider is 230 pounds.
We spent a busy week in the Black Hills and this was declared the best by the girls
