We were looking to adopt a cat and looked at the Charleston Animal Shelter. Everyone that helped us was super kind and helpful. You can tell they have a passion for what they do and I felt really good about looking for our little soul kitty there. We ended up adopting from their kittens at the West Ashley Pet Smart. The people at PetSmart were not as nice and I felt super rushed and like I was being a burden to them. I hope all of the cats especially the Pet Smart kitties get adopted soon. Dropped off a beautiful kitten I found at the dump today. They took him back, had a bowl of food for him in minutes. I was really worried because this kitten obviously had been out in the weather during the recent winter storm. The place was spotless, no bad smells or odor you often experience in a pound. Staff was caring and friendly. Amazing service to the community!
Late edit: This kitten was extremely ill and the vets at Charleston Animal Society went leaps and bounds to save him. He almost died twice. He was fostered by a wonderful volunteer and she fell in love with this special boy and she adopted him. His name is Dylan.

Such an amazing facility. We have adopted here before, did again today, and will do it again in the future. They explain everything so deeply and answer any and all question you might have.
