I've had the same experience with the braider loading way too much braiding hair onto a tiny lock of hair. (If you can even call it a lock of hair). This is very unprofessional. Amazingly, the lady was sitting there telling me about alopecia (hair loss from excessive pulling at the hair) and at the same time she is wrapping these big-ass loops of hair around these tiny pieces of hair along my hairline, as well as the rest of my head. I couldn't see what she was doing at the time, so I didn't find out until I got home and really examined the job that she did. I had asked for individual braids, and I expressly told her I wanted medium-sized braids, NOT microbraids. My hair is very fine, so I would need larger hair sections - I thought she would know that. She gave me medium braids, but parted my hair like she was doing micros. So I've got this big mass of hair hanging off my head, with just little thin sections of hair to support all this hair. She did a nice job - she curled the ends with the rollers and hot water and all, but I was in so much pain by the time she finished I almost wanted to cry. She said to take an aspirin for the pain. (I needed more than that - I had a terrible headache as well as my entire scalp being in pain). I couldn't even smile without hurting myself. To be honest, I've had tight braids before where I would take a Tylenol for relief until the braids loosened slightly (which is probably still bad for your hair), but this time the pain would not subside, and it was so bad I couldn't wait any longer. The NEXT DAY I was taking those braids out and re-doing them, with LARGER sections of my own hair and LESS braiding hair. Often I could combine three sections of my own hair into one, using only 1/2 and sometime 1/3 of the loop of braiding hair she had originally wrapped around the original tiny sections of my own hair. And she had really pulled them in there TIGHT. I thought I only needed to do the hairline area, but I found that my entire head felt better after taking out the big loops, combining my hair into bigger sections, and re-doing the braid with less hair. I know - I ended up doing my own hair after paying someone else to do it, but she did create the braiding pattern, at least. (Probably could have done that myself, but oh well, live and learn). I think I saved myself from becoming bald by re-doing my entire head, because the pain and the headache was incredible, both of which was immediately relieved after I re-did my own hair. Nice lady, but she could use a lot more training, especially in the area of preventing alopecia.
