Back in July, I had to bring my kitty Squash in for a CT scan and liver shunt ligation surgery. Doctor LK was very realistic about the possible risks of the surgery (post op seizures, blindness, etc.), but also let me know that surgery was the gold standard of care to ensure he lives a long, happy, healthy life. Prior to surgery, he was on several medications (up to 9 times a day based on how his medication schedule fell,) on a protein restricted diet and had to have frequent bloodwork due to having consistent elevations in his ammonia levels. Metropolitan Veterinary Associates saved my 4yo dog Rhys’ life. He had an acute Xylitol ingestion after eating an entire box (50 pieces) of Mentos sugar free gum and by the time we got there my muscular healthy 80lb Cane Corso mix was unresponsive and shaking. The staff immediately took him back, started 2 IV’s gave him IV glucose and fluids. They were communicating with us and with poison control at the same time and knew exactly what to do to resuscitate him! Thank you Dr. Gaunt and staff for your quick, kind, compassionate and professional service! We feel a little older from this ordeal, but Rhys is back to his old playful self! Very impressed with how well organized the ER clinic is and how incredibly competent and caring the staff members are. I brought my dog who suddenly took a turn for the worst and was very pleased with the initial assessment, diagnostics and treatment. I thought I might be saying good bye to my dog, and instead he is doing much better.
