Stop, right now, do yourself a favor, and hire these guys if you’re looking for a masonry contractor. Seriously. You will get no better. First, let me say my husband and I moved into our first home two years ago. Over these two years we’ve reached out to and hired other contractors to complete other projects around our house. We have NOT had luck with contractors in general… they’re almost always a disappointment. Either their e-mail and phone communication skills are terrible, they do rushed/sub-par work, leave mess and property destruction behind them, they make you feel like an unimportant ‘quick’ job between bigger and better clients, or something else… Working with Shawn at Brown Bros. Masonry was the complete opposite. After countless let downs with other contractors, it almost felt surreal working with them. I reached out to Shawn in May 2021 about a fireplace job via e-mail, officially hiring him in November 2021. It took us a while to officially hire because we were trying to work out funds, and decide which projects we wanted to prioritize over others. We wanted to do a patio build before our fireplace, but after being strung along and let down again by a couple different patio contractors, we decided to finally go ahead with the fireplace first instead. We have about 50 back and forth emails over that period between us. Not only was Shawn incredibly nice and patient, he answered all our questions in detail, gave us advice outside our questions, and was lightning quick in his responses. Sometimes it felt like we were instant messaging with how fast his responses were. I think the longest wait between emails was maybe a day max. Can I just tell you- how much of a breath of fresh air this was after legitimately fighting to keep in contact with other contractors. Other contractors made me feel like an unimportant side job for a quick cash grab, or even completely forgotten with how little they cared to keep us in the loop and updated on their work schedule at our house or even choosing a start date, whereas just by communication alone, Shawn just made us feel like his most important client, even with how small our job was in comparison to larger clients. Before we hired, we also had a couple other masonry guys out here to give us quotes as well. They actually gave us quotes a few hundred cheaper (if they got back to us at all...), but their communication skills and the way they talked to us and treated us via e-mail and while they were here in person, was nothing in comparison to Shawn. Having been down that road before, the husband and I said no way forget it, and hired Shawn over them. Absolutely, 120% no regrets at all. As they say, you get what you pay for, and the “extra” cost was 1000% worth the care he took into the job for us and how we were treated every step of the way. My new fireplace is absolutely gorgeous, and I have NO doubts in my mind that it wasn’t done correctly. He kept in contact every day of when he would be here to work on it, showed up on time every time, and kept us in the loop of what would be happening each day as far as progress. Even when the job was said and done, and we handed over the final check to him, he called my husband back to give us advice on how to keep more heat in our house via the fireplace opening, while we wait to buy a gas insert for it. Seriously, 15/10 stars easily. If we ever have masonry work in the future, I know exactly who I am going back to to hire, and if anyone ever asks me if I know anyone, I will be recommending Brown Bros. Masonry every chance I get.
