We wanted to replace our 17-year-old composite deck, which had served us well but was now rapidly deteriorating. We had several ideas, some half baked, others quite thoroughly baked. When John came out from Fort Rock, he brought along a case of catalogs and samples and walked us through them to let us see the wealth of possibilities in both material and construction. Then he did something extraordinary. He listened. And gradually, over the next week or so, he helped us develop a plan for a deck that would be beautiful, durable, and easy-to-maintain.
