BC installed 2 supporting beams that ran the length of my house from the basement side of the first floor in June '19. The idea was not to move the floors, but to support a section around the fireplace that has a dip. BC was paid $4800, an outrageous amount I've been told, by HAPCAP. In Nov '20, my daughter & I started noticing that the wooden floors were starting to creak & buckle. We were puzzled. On further examination, we noticed a giant crack behind a radiator that was tilting into the floor and the mirror above it was no longer flush with the wall. Kitchen tiles were starting to crack, door frames & the ceiling were being affected, the main wall in the living room was cracking, my bedroom door was scraping the floor and my desk drawer kept rolling open because of a new slant in the floor. It was a slow moving train as we as we witnessed the damage from that point forward. I contacted HAPCAP in the midst of discovering some of this. It was the holiday season, so no one came out for a few weeks. A contractor was here installing two windows in Nov '20. We took a look together at the basement and found at least one of the beams was badly twisted and the posts (they used cheaper temporary ones rather than permanent as stated in the contract) were either not touching the beams, barely touching the beams or splayed out to the side from falling over. The posts weren't attached to the beams and most were either not on concrete pads or on inadequate amounts of poorly mixed concrete that was breaking off easily. They beams were mostly just hanging there, wreaking havoc on my house. One of the contractors described it as if my house was on a teeter totter. I attempted to work through both HAPCAP & B.C. I left 9-10 phone messages w/ BC before the owner, Rob Martin, called back in mid-Feb 2021. He told me they weren't coming to look at the work because of the following reasons: 1) after I described the situation, he said it wasn't his workers who did this. I asked, "Are you telling me I had someone come remove the work you did and replace it with this mess?" 2) The work was beyond the 1-year contract and HAPCAP signed off on it 3) he said he "couldn't" because they don't work on houses anymore, just larger construction jobs. I was advised by a lawyer to have at least 3 independent contractors provide quotes. Each was amazed at the poor quality of the job and each said the entire job was not what needed to have happened. Rob Martin accepted zero responsibility and didn't come see my house until May'21, after I filed a lawsuit. After seeing the mess he said he'd replace it, which would mean my house would remain unsettled, and that he's "not doing anything for the interior". I had to go through with the lawsuit and just received a check for $10,000 (8/22/22), not nearly enough to cover the damages. They were originally paid $4800, so they got off by paying just a little more than $5000. BC has been nothing but total jerks this entire time and they got by with it because they have zero ethical backbone and HAPCAP is partially to blame. HAPCAP ghosted me and I am still trying to get them to accept some responsibility for signing off on the job without inspecting the work. BC's website states their core values as: Value Honesty, Amazing Judgement, Leading by Taking Action, Unified Team, Exceeding Customer Expectations, and Swift Change. All empty words.
