About The Westin Great Southern Columbus
The Westin Great Southern Columbus offers clean and comfortable rooms with comfy beds and pillows. The hotel's lobby is impressive, and its location is convenient, with the Southern Theatre next door and Katzinger's Deli just an 8-minute walk away. The hotel also features a happy hour and a pool, although it can get crowded with families. Some guests have experienced issues with housekeeping and billing, but overall, the hotel provides a good stay. Many visitors appreciate the friendly staff, especially front desk employees who go out of their way to help, upgrade rooms, and offer great service despite busy times. The location is highly praised, and the rooms, though smaller, are well maintained and very clean. The hotel’s amenities and friendly atmosphere make it a popular choice for many guests, who consider it their go-to spot in Columbus.
I wanted to like this hotel, it is in a neat old building, but it just wasn't great. Half the elevators were out of service, the restaurant is just ok and definitely FULL price. The rooms are old and small. Bigger issue for me was location. Every time I went outside there were crazy people screaming and yelling. The bus stop across the street was a mess and the homeless around the hotel was a real bummer.... So i wouldn't stay again.
The staff was the best part of the stay, hands down. I could have done without the false fire alarm at 1am and the crime scene across the street but it's a historic hotel, downtown. Ya sort of know what you're getting into.
The rooms are very small (again, historic) but it's beautiful. The architecture is glorious and well maintained.
The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but the ballroom is stunning!
As a Marriott Platinum member with over 500 nights of stays I can say with experience that this is a disappointing place. It’s historic, clean and great location. But beyond this the service level was poor and there were many red flags from a broken front door to the lack of loaner umbrellas. But the worst was that I saw on my bill a different amount for a tip left on a (not very appealing) breakfast. While it was only a dollar more on my bill than what I penned in on the check, it was distributing how the front desk sloughed it off. Makes me wonder if this is a standard practice to see what they can get away with. I will look for other options the next time I visit...read full review
