“We had an overall good experience with Ivy League Driving School. They were very accommodating when we needed to get into an earlier class, which we really appreciated. We chose to do Ivy League because my son is an athlete and also attends Wilson Tech half of the day so school sponsored drivers education is really tough to manage during the school year with so much going on. Many times the DE schedule is not feasible with athletes athletic practice commitments.<br><br>The classroom portion was actually very good. My son would come home talking about the different rules and things he learned that day, so I definitely felt like he was paying attention and getting something out of it. The quizzes were open notebook, which I also liked because it encouraged the students to listen and take good notes during class. If they did that, the notes were very helpful when it came time for the assessments.<br><br>The driving portion was fine, although instructors seemed to switch around fairly often and there were some days when they came back earlier than expected. Students receive about six hours of actual behind-the-wheel instruction through the program, which I understand is pretty standard. Parents are still responsible for completing the additional required driving hours with their child, which obviously gives them plenty of practice, but personally I would love to see driving schools offer more actual instructional driving time. I think it would be beneficial for students to spend more of those hours with a professional instructor and take a little of that responsibility off the parents, especially considering the cost of the program.<br><br>They also offer a $90 option where your child can have a driving lesson before the road test and then use the same car for the actual test, which I think is a really nice option. The only downside is that your child has to have held their permit for at least six months and be eligible to take the road test within the timeframe needed to use it. Depending on when your child starts the program, you may not necessarily be able to take advantage of that option.<br><br>Overall, it was a positive experience. The classroom instruction was definitely a strong point, they were accommodating to work with, and my son learned a lot. I just wish there were more professional behind-the-wheel instruction included in the program.”

“St. Anthony's driving teachers educate students on 1. how to drive, 2. NYS road rules, 3. being aware of their surroundings, and 4. dealing with distractions (such as cellphones and the other kids in the car who are also taking the course).Classes are given weekly over a 4 month period on the same day each week. They consist of an hour lecture and an hour and a half of shared driving. The teacher sits in the passenger seat and four students rotate between sitting in the back and taking their turn in the driver's seat.What is taught MUST be studied and practiced at home before the next class, which requires the presence and guidance of a licenced adult. The teacher is a teacher, not a magician, and without reading the manual and spending time behind the wheel, your teen won't gain the confidence they'll need, placing themselves and other's at risk.St. Anthony's cost for group driving lessons is exactly average for Long Island. If you prefer private instruction, there are places listed online (at a much higher fee). You will still need to practice with your son/daughter at home, and they will still need to study the driving manual and memorize NYS driving rules, not just for the test, but literally for their lives.4 Stars Because: If you attend this course but do not go to this school, you will generally find yourself treated by the other kids as if you do not exist.Recommendation: Absolutely worth it for what it teaches if you attend this high school or if you are coming in from the outside and are confident enough not to let cliques bother you.”
