My mother receives most of her medical care at Betances Health Center, and we’re grateful to have a health center within walking distance of her home. Most of her experiences have been positive, although wait times can sometimes be long.
Unfortunately, they recently dropped the ball with an important referral. After being diagnosed with macular degeneration, she was referred to a specialist who did not accept her specific UnitedHealthcare insurance. This should have been verified before the referral was made. I later found out that the same type of care is available at Gouverneur Hospital, only a few blocks from her home, making the referral even more confusing.
