“Years ago, when Great Neck had restaurants like Pancho's and Bruce's, it also had a Supercuts. In typical corporate fashion, as soon as they realized they weren't making money, Supercuts left town.Ade had been a young hairstylist there, and she gained a huge following--all her customers (including I) would ask for her by name. If you're someone who knows exactly what you want done with your hair, she'll listen to your wishes and execute them flawlessly. If you're someone like me who has no idea what to ask for, she has an uncanny ability to know exactly how to cut and style your hair perfectly without your having to say a word. Every time she holds that mirror up for me to look at my head at the end, I get a big smile on my face.When Supercuts shuttered, Ade leased their store and stared her own salon, which took off in popularity for many years. In recent years, she moved across the street to a shared space in the storefront marked "Steven Robert" (look for the "Ade Beauty Salon" sign in the window). (I could write a whole separate piece talking about how the Village of Great Neck Plaza does a terrible job at making their rents affordable, but I won't--suffice it to say that in Ade's new space, you get exactly the same amazing service you got at her own storefront).Ade has a warm and infectious personality. She always has a smile on her face. She clearly loves what she does, and it shows in her results. I'm Asian and it's not always easy to cut Asian hair, but she always comes through. I've seen people of all races, colors, and cultures sitting in her chair, and not once have I seen a customer who was less than thrilled with their results.To me, Ade is the epitome of an American success story. She's a first-generation immigrant who works really, really hard to provide an important service to her community and has become a much-loved and highly respected member of the community as well. “Tammy did my hair for my bridal shower and it was very pretty! I showed her a photo and she did it pretty closely to what I showed her. I got lots of heat and hair spray so it stayed for the entire event. She really knows how to do a variety of hairstyles with ease and professionalism, not to mention how affordable she is, especially for the area! She also did my mom's hair, and this is a woman who's gotten her hair done maybe twice in her whole life, and she was really happy with the results. She also has a nail section, so you can go to her for that as well! I'm planning to return to get lowlights done, and I'm really excited.“
