Most of my rugs' value are in sentiment only but I have trusted them with my vintage pieces. So far in my experience all stains have lost to Reilly's skills. My simple advice is that cleaning valuable / vintage pieces is not a hobby, trust the experts. Trying to restore a botched up stain removal (if even possible) will likely be very expensive.
