Brunswick County Animal Services

Brunswick County Animal Services is a business that provides services for animals and their owners. They are known for their patience and helpfulness, as shown in their easy adoption process and assistance with surrendering animals. The facility is clean, well-smelling, and gives the impression that the animals are well cared for. The business offers a voucher for spaying or neutering adopted animals.

The shelter is exceptionally well run, with spacious quarters and raised beds for all animals. Staff and volunteers are very animal friendly, making the animals appear happy in their surroundings. Visitors can spend quality time with their new pets in the lovely outdoor ring or in the cat room, allowing for a great bonding experience. Overall, it is one of the nicest animal shelters, providing high-quality care and a welcoming environment.

There have been discussions about the shelter's status as a low-kill versus no-kill facility. As a county-funded operation, it takes in any animal regardless of health issues. Dogs that have bitten someone are kept in quarantine for observation and may be euthanized if they show signs of rabies. Animals that are too sick or injured to cure, or show signs of rabies, are euthanized. Dogs that do not show signs of rabies but are surrendered by owners who do not want them back are also euthanized. About 10 years ago, the euthanasia rate was very high, but since the Sheriff's office took over, it has improved significantly. The shelter successfully finds homes for many animals, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, and ensures they receive necessary medications and participate in a spay/neuter program. Overall, the shelter does a fine job caring for animals and helping them find new homes, making it an amazing organization for trustworthy adoptions.
