Animals that are too sick or injured to cure, or show signs of rabies, are euthanized. Dogs that do not show signs of rabies but are surrendered by owners who do not want them back are also euthanized. About 10 years ago, the euthanasia rate was very high, but since the Sheriff's office took over, it has improved significantly. The shelter successfully finds homes for many animals, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and rabbits, and ensures they receive necessary medications and participate in a spay/neuter program.
