I've played disc golf for over 20yrs and I am primarily a right hand forehand thrower. This year I was dealing with some pain in my right shoulder at the beginning of the season. The first forehand throw of the day always hurt, meds like Advil and Tylenol didn't help at all, but most of the time I could play through the pain. I really wanted to play in the Midtown tournament, but I didn't know how well my shoulder would hold up during the event given it would be two days and four rounds on some long courses. I signed up to play anyway and after the first round at Clayton the pain was so great I couldn't throw anymore forehand throws. I played the rest of the tournament throwing backhand only, which was the weakest the part of my game and it showed. I didn't want to just drop out because I was there (at that point) to have fun. That first night though, the shoulder pain kept me up all night and it was very hard to sleep. On the second day, I saw Dr Hightower walking to the sign in station and I mentioned my shoulder injury. He then came over to me and proceeded to work on my shoulder right there in the parking lot. I can honestly say it felt better and I was able to play the rest of the day without pain, even though I wasn't throwing forehand shots. I continued to play the rest of the tournament and my scores plummeted but I was still having fun. The Midtown tournament sponsored by Dr Hightower and Midtown Chiropractic & Acupuncture is one of the best tournaments to play in the area every year! After the tournament, I called Dr Hightower and made an appointment to come in for some formal chiropractic work on my shoulder. Dr Hightower took the time necessary to explain the anatomy and reasons for my injury in detail. After the appointment where he worked on my shoulder and my back, I felt 100% better. It was like I never had any pain at all. Unfortunately it was short lived, but Dr Hightower actually texted me to checkup on me before my next appointment. I don't know of, nor have I had, another doctor that provides that kind of genuine support for a patient's well being. I also went to an orthopedic doctor to get a second opinion and was diagnosed with a minor shoulder impingement. It was also recommended that I do some physical therapy during my recovery. The odd thing about my injury was that it only hurt when throwing forehand shots. It didn't hurt at all to throw backhand shots, and for the most part it didn't hurt during the day doing normal activities. Not only was it hard to reproduce the pain outside of throwing a forehand shot, it was hard to diagnose, and hard to convince anybody I was in pain. Dr Hightower was knowledgeable about my injury since he too plays disc golf and he was genuinely concerned about my injury. As of today, I am back throwing forehand shots and my backhand shots have improved as a bonus. I believe that the chiropractic care I received helped speed up the recovery process. If you are looking for a chiropractor that genuinely cares and is knowledgeable about disc golf (and other sports), I recommend Dr Hightower at Midtown Chiropractic & Acupuncture!
I fully recommend Midtown Chiropractic to anyone who would like a consultative, educational and effective therapeutic chiropractic experience. Dr. Hightower and his staff are very attentive and courteous. Issues are diagnosed, explained and a treatment plan is set. As the plan proceeds and your pain changes, so does the recommended frequency. I was able to go from several times a week for a chronic issue to twice a month routine maintenance within 30 days. It is a comfortable, family-like, atmosphere in the office. Most importantly; the Dr. is very good at what he does and is focused on accomplishing goals, as opposed to unnecessarily long-term/high-frequency therapy. A great local business to support!
Recently broke many ribs, 7 vertebrae, and a few others. Had some serious nerve issues that seriously hindered any feeling from both armpits to fingertips. While neglectfully setting up my neurosurgery...decided to get Dr. Hightower's opinion. He inferred that these issues are right up his alley, and recommended giving him a shot before surgery. After 3 weeks of his hands on expertise and knowledge, have progressed enough thus far that surgery is off the table. So relieved that have taken this path. Highly recommend his services! Thank you, Todd Hoover
