I finished my final session of the GLA:D program for arthritis at the Richibucto clinic.I must say that I was a bit sceptical in the beginning as I had not experienced any programming that helped with pain control since it was discovered that I have osteoarthritis. I have endured many difficult and painful days and evenings in the past several years, and I was thinking, "Here comes another band-aid approach that will be short lived" Boy...was I wrong! I have to give a huge thank-you to Ms. Stephanie Mourant. She was outstanding in her general and specific knowledge base, and of what each Client (group of three) might be facing from an individual perspective. Ms. Mourant modeled and discussed strategies; modified the exercises for each person when the need was there; explaining from an educational perspective, the rational behind the program, the research that supports it, and the exercises that produce results. She was also very cognizant of mental challenges that her clients (us 🙂) might be facing after having dealt with the mental strain of daily living and working through pain. Stephanie discussed mental resilience with us, guiding us to discover a new focus in terms of working our way to maintenance. Work on the program and improve the areas that will help with overall success. After twelve sessions, I have already been able to resume several activities that I believed I would never do again. I have also been able to challenge myself without worrying about doing more damage to my knees. My pain medication has been reduced significantly and my general physical and mental health have also improved. Without a doubt, the GLA:D ideology is the most effective program for dealing with the aggravating, constant drone of arthritis pain that exists. Thank you Stephanie!You're a gem! Kevin
Just about to finish my 12 session SDU GLA:D ON-LINE Exercise Program with Brian and Phil. Excellent guidance with supervision and I haven’t left the comfort of home. I’d highly recommend everyone as they will adjust exercises to your specific level. Thanks again...Valerie
