When I first entered Day Institute in Lake St. Louis, I could barely walk by myself. I had just left SSM Hospital after almost three weeks in a hospital bed caused by a nasty fall I had wherein I broke my right humerus. The fall and those weeks in the hospital bed robbed me of strength, balance, and coordination. I was very discouraged and didn’t think I would ever be back to my original self again. I am 84 years old and in generally good health and I worried that my age would prevent me from responding to treatment. When I started at the Institute after my strokes, I could use a walker, but only carefully and slowly. Now I can walk almost as normally as if nothing had ever happened. I am stronger than I’ve ever been in my life.
The therapists there are professional, but so encouraging and enthusiastic that I loved going and feeling special and able every day. They knew what I could do and should do so that I was safe but constantly making progress.

Very knowledgeable, approachable and friendly staff. There evaluation identified the areas in speech, occupation and physical where I needed improvement. Provided me with challenging activities that enabled me to return my normal everyday activities.
