About The Root of Motion
The Root of Motion specializes in Muscle Activation Techniques (MAT), a unique approach to bodywork that focuses on improving the connection between the brain and muscles. MAT sessions involve movement analysis, stretching, and targeted muscle activation to identify and correct weaknesses. This method aims to address the root cause of issues like pain, tightness, and poor body mechanics, leading to increased range of motion, stability, and strength. Many clients report significant benefits from MAT, including relief from chronic pain and improved overall function. The owner, Rachael, is known for her friendly and professional approach, often opting for 90-minute appointments to ensure better results, despite the physical effort involved. The Root of Motion also offers connective healing massage to support the body's natural healing processes. Clients have shared that treatments with Rachael are beneficial, especially for persistent issues that haven't responded to traditional therapies like massage, acupuncture, chiropractic care, or physical therapy. One client mentioned that after starting MAT, they haven't experienced calf pulls during runs or workouts, highlighting the effectiveness of the technique. Overall, The Root of Motion is a place where individuals of all ages, including children, can find helpful therapy. The combination of MAT and massage work provides a comprehensive approach aimed at improving movement, reducing pain, and promoting healing.
I initially heard about MAT from my cousin after complaining that I was frequently pulling my calves while running. He has gone to an MAT practitioner in Kansas City and raved about it. After investigating a bit more, I found Rachael and Root of Motion and decided to give it a try. The results, while gradual, were undeniable. Since starting MAT I haven't had a single calf pull during any of my runs or sprint workouts. Rachael is friendly and fun but a master of her craft and a true professional that takes pride in truly helping her clients. As an example of this, she often opts for 90 minute appointments; this is much more of a physical burden on her -- MAT is often a lot of work for the therapist -- yet she is willing to do it because she believes it yields better results for her clients. She also provides massage work as well; the combo of the two is fantastic. Of course MAT won't solve every problem. But if you've been suffering with injury, pain, or inflexibility, it may be worth a shot. If you're curious, I recommend giving Rachael and MAT a try.
I have been getting massages monthly for years. I am always trying different practitioners in my local area. Rachael is a great listener, extremely caring, and just a delight to be around. She is extremely knowledgable about her craft, and she genuinely enjoys what she does, and it shows. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend giving her a try.
Rachael is incredibly knowledgeable and offers a hard to find service in the STL area. If you have a nagging issue that massage, acupuncture, chiropractor, stretching, even physical therapy can't help with, give The Root of Motion a try. Muscle activation techniques work in a total different way and have been able to help me with my shoulders, wrists, ankles, you name it! When we have issues that can't be "diagnosed," the medical field leaves us with few options and The Root of Motion fills that gap. If you are hesitant to book due to the price, keep in mind that MAT is eligible for FSA and, well, feeling good is priceless. I highly recommend and I have tried ALL the things. I have been seeing Rachael off and on for 9+ years - you'll be glad you start seeing her too!
