About Da Vinci Restoration
Da Vinci Restoration is a business that specializes in the repair and restoration of furniture, oil paintings, art, and antiques. They offer free estimates and consultations, either in-person at their shop or via email. Customers can call or email to get a professional opinion on restoring their valuable family heirlooms. The reviews of Da Vinci Restoration are mixed. Some customers have had positive experiences, praising the high-quality craftsmanship and the owner's expertise. One customer was impressed that a repair to an antique chair was done so well that neither they nor the owner could identify which leg had been repaired. Another customer was satisfied with the restoration work on a pair of campaign chests. However, other customers have reported concerns about the pricing and transparency of the estimates. One customer was shocked to find that the final cost was significantly higher than the initial estimate, with additional charges not clearly explained. This customer felt that the overall cost was exorbitant and not worth the work done, as the trunks did not appear to be fully restored and had some issues after being returned. Despite these concerns, some customers have found the prices to be reasonable and have expressed excitement to work with Da Vinci Restoration on future projects. Overall, the reviews suggest that the quality of work can be excellent, but customers should be cautious about the pricing and ensure they fully understand the estimated costs before proceeding.
True story: I took two antique sack-back Windsor Chairs to Daren for tightening and repair. One leg on one of the two chairs had been splintered in half (I literally hit it with an SUV). When I went to pick up the two chairs, *neither* of us could identify which leg he'd repaired -- it was that well done. He also beautifully restored a pair of campaign chests that had been abused and water damaged in a teenager's bedroom. His craftsmanship speaks for itself, and he's lovely to work with. Can't say enough good things.
Extremely expensive. Make sure you understand his estimate clearly, and keep copies of what you sign as it's written out in narrative form, not as an itemized table with a true bottom line cost and in my case, I was given different numbers. What appears as a bottom line total cost is a sentence or two and although it states "total cost" it is not - it is only part of his overall estimate. I am sick to my stomach that I paid $3000 to have two antique trunks repaired when I understood the cost would be $825 each. That was already $2-300 higher than I had budgeted based on other estimates but decided to go with DaVinci as they seemed competent. I was floored when the trunks...read full review
Darren was fantastically informative and experienced. We dropped off our (exceptionally large) piece and he went through everything he planned to do and the parts that may be complicated, exactly what was in the quote - which was done over email. Easy to work with, responded quickly, and prices are reasonable. I'm looking forward to getting our sideboard back and planning for future projects.
