The care my dad is getting in Hurley on today 11/ 23/ 25 is exceptional. We have been here more times than I care to say but all his favorite nurses came to his aid! I prayed and the Lord answered!
I recently had the opportunity to experience care at Hurley Hospital and I cannot express enough how exceptional my experience was! This was my first visit to Hurley and, in fact, my first time in Flint. Initially, I was apprehensive after reading some less-than-stellar reviews, but they were completely unfounded based on my experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt reassured that I was in excellent hands. While I was aware of the incredible neuro surgeon, Dr. Marc Moisi, I had no idea just how remarkable the entire team would be. I underwent a complex procedure involving a medical device that many staff members had never encountered, yet their professionalism, commitment to learn, and provide me excellent care never wavered. During my stay, I had the privilege of being cared for in multiple units: the Neuro Trauma ICU, Surgical Critical Care Unit, Critical Care ICU, and 9E general medicine floor. Each team member, from doctors to housekeeper's, showed an impressive level of skills, compassion and dedication. Their support was overwhelming, and they consistently went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and care. I would like to highlight the phenomenal speech therapist Chase, who was not only extremely knowledgeable but whose level of compassion was everything I needed during such a challenging time. Being both mentally and physically exhausted from my condition left me feeling completely overwhelmed. Chase took time from her lunch break to sit by my bedside, allowing me to be vulnerable, cry and share my feelings. I'll never forget her beautiful face, dark curly hair her smile and how she made me feel. I also had the pleasure of working with Theresa, a senior physical therapist whose expertise truly shone through in everything she did. Her care and understanding made each visit not only productive but also uplifting. The commitment and kindness of the nurses, nurse externs, CNA, dietary aide Renee, and the housekeeper in the Neuro Trauma ICU, Ms. Ronell, were remarkable. One of the highlights of my stay was celebrating my birthday in the Neuro trauma ICU. I woke up after being sedated for two days to see the most incredible hand-drawn birthday cake surrounded by balloons on the whiteboard. Later that day, the ICU nurses came into my room with a slice of cake (even though I couldn’t eat it as I was NPO) and serenaded me with singing Happy Birthday. Moments like that reminded me of the warmth and humanity present in this hospital. While there are far too many nurses to name all of you individually because each and every one contributed to my healing in profound ways, I’d like to recognize a few names that particularly stand out: Mattie, Nick, Dylan, Markie, Marcie, Brian, Elizabeth ,Sandy, Tori, Khristie, Rochelle, Heather, Richa, and Kristie. If I could nominate awards, these names would stand out, but collectively all of you were amazing and contributed to my recovery in ways I can’t fully express. While my condition was "unique" to most of the staff and unfamiliar, the way they figured it out and provided nothing short of quality care was truly impressive. I felt seen, heard, and cared for. Thank you once again to the whole Hurley Hospital team!. Hurley Hospital’s commitment to patient care is exemplary, and I feel grateful to have received such exceptional treatment. Y'all surpassed any expectations I had. I wholeheartedly would recommend Hurley Hospital to anyone in need of medical assistance. They truly are a gem in Flint, and to think I almost allowed the reviews I read to scare me into getting treatment there.
