A wonderful site to experience of Beatrix Jones Ferrand’s genius on an intimate, residential scale. The charm of this very modest house and these gardens she designed to herself and her aide incorporate the core elements of Ferrand’s more palatial work at the Abbey Aldrich Rockerfeller garden and Dumbarton Oaks. Highly recommended for any home gardener looking for inspiration from one of America’s greatest landscape architects of all time.

On our way to our hotel in Bar Harbor, Maine we notice a sign for this small botanical garden and Garland Farm. They happen to be only open on Thursday from 1-4pm and we were there on a Thursday. Beatrix Farrand was a famous landscape Architect that commissioned 110 Gardens including the White House. She passed away in 1959. The Society is a federally recognized nonprofit in Maine dedicated to to fostering the art and science of horticulture. We enjoyed walking around the property.
